Fort Monroe is a wonderful place to visit. If you are a history buff, nature lover or simply looking for a good meal, a day at Fort Monroe is unlike any other.
Its 400-plus years of rich history have made Fort Monroe a unique and diverse place to explore. Surrounded by water, the location has long been chosen by military forces as a strategic point from which to protect our country.
Fort Monroe has Breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay, a lovely waterfront landscape and plenty of open space to accommodate both large and intimate guest lists.
For at least 400 years, the point of land known as Old Point Comfort that now includes Fort Monroe has served as the key defensive site at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay
The Fort Monroe Authority collects and cares for objects and archival materials representing the history of the inhabitants of the land currently occupied by the Authority.

FORT MONROE REMAINS OPEN during the federal shutdown. The National Park Service tours and programs are suspended at this time. The grounds remain open for touring and Visitor & Education Center and Casemate Museum are open as well as the restaurants and other businesses here at Fort Monroe Please continue to check our website for updates.
Fort Monroe Updates:
The West Bastion connecting the pedestrian bridge (postern gate) outside of the Visitor & Education Center (VEC) to the interior of the fort is closed to pedestrian traffic through mid-January 2026.

Wednesday, December 24th - VEC closed at 3pm - Casemate Museum closed at 1:30pm
Thursday, December 25th - VEC and Casemate Museum closed all day
Friday, December 26th - VEC and Casemate Museum closed all day
