Road to Freedom

- Description: Join us at Freedom’s Fortress to experience history where it happened. Guests will walk in the steps of those whose actions resulted in the 1861 contraband decision, and hear how freedom seekers, despite peril to themselves and families, began the nation’s movement towards emancipation. Hear about the many roadblocks and obstacles they faced along the path, and how their courage and resiliency gave hope to so many others on the Road to Freedom.

Explore inside The Chapel of the Centurion, one of the oldest wood structures continually used for religous services by the United States Army. Learn its rich history and be inspired by 24 beautiful stain glass windows memorializing the lives, accomplishments and sacrifices made by soldiers and those close to their heart.
