Campfire Talk Series –
Climate Change, the Chesapeake Bay, and Zooplankton: Understanding Poop in the Ocean

Even though we don’t like to talk about it, poop plays an important role in the health of living organisms as well as entire ecosystems! Animal poop plays a critical role in supporting marine food webs, providing important information for researchers and conservationists, and even regulating our global climate! Kristen Sharpe, assistant director of outreach & engagement at Virginia Institute of Marine Science, will provide a general overview of the importance of poop in the ocean, and an explanation of how her research on zooplankton poop in the Chesapeake Bay helps us forecast and prepare for the impacts of climate change.
