Plan Your Visit
Fort Monroe is a wonderful place to visit. If you are a history buff, nature lover or simply looking for a good meal, a day at Fort Monroe is unlike any other.
Join the Fort Monroe Authority and Fort Monroe National Monument for this special Edition of Evolution of Freedom. Our November show was interrupted and shut down due to technical difficulties, but we didn’t want to let this go.
We started a conversation exploring the origins of PowWow Step, the evolution of a completely new and fresh sub genre of club music, and were diving into enlightening conversation between our guests DJ Shub and Dr. Chris Scales. It’s high time we get back into it!!!
Discover the intersection of Indigenous music traditions and modern dance culture as our two guest speakers, DJ Shub, the Godfather of PowWow Step, and Dr. Chris Scales, a professor of Ethnomusicology at Michigan State University, engage in a dynamic discussion about the evolution of freedom through music. Virtually join us on Thursday, April 28 at 6 p.m. for an evening of entertaining and colorful tunes.
The Evolution of Freedom series seeks to expand our understanding of themes of freedom through the exploration of shared national and international narratives, and expressions of collective memory through the arts.
Tickets are free and open to the public but registration is required. Register here to join us on April 28th!
Individual registration is required to enjoy the private stream with full live chat and Q&A function. Leading up to the event you will receive a follow up e-mail with the direct link to the private stream.
This program is supported by a grant from Newport News Shipbuilding, a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries.
