Its 400-plus years of rich history have made Fort Monroe a unique and diverse place to explore. Surrounded by water, the location has long been chosen by military forces as a strategic point from which to protect our country.
Fort Monroe has Breathtaking views of the Chesapeake Bay, a lovely waterfront landscape and plenty of open space to accommodate both large and intimate guest lists.

To celebrate National Recreation and Parks Month, join us July 6th from 10am-11am or 1pm-2pm in the Visitor and Education Center at Fort Monroe for Rampart Readers, a children’s book club partnership between Fort Monroe Authority and Hampton Public Library. This month, we are reading Amara and the Bats, written and illustrated by Emma Reynolds, showcasing the power of communities coming together to create spaces for everyone to enjoy nature. After, spend some time with us to create a flying paper bat craft.

The North Gate Sally Port is closed to all vehicular and pedestrian traffic until further notice due to an oversized vehicle trying to access the Inner Fort. Pedestrians and vehicles that need access to the Inner Fort should use the Main Gate or East Gate Sally Ports. Please note the height restrictions for vehicles on these 2 access points to the Inner Fort before entering the Inner Fort.
