Its 400-plus years of rich history have made Fort Monroe a unique and diverse place to explore. Surrounded by water, the location has long been chosen by military forces as a strategic point from which to protect our country.

Honoring 246 years of African heritage between the first enslaved African Landing in English speaking North America in 1619 and the passage of the 13th Amendment ending slavery in the US in 1865. Join us to reflect on Juneteenth and legacy of the 400 years of African American history. The public is invited to walk along the path of the many freedom seekers in the Inner Fort here at Fort Monroe.
