NATIONAL PARK SERVICE

The Fort Monroe National Monument which includes Old Quarters 1, the original fort headquarters and oldest non-fortification structure, a home of Robert E. Lee, the historic engineer’s quarters, the parade ground and 235 acres of North Beach area will be managed by the National Park Service.

CITY OF HAMPTON

Another important partnership that makes up Fort Monroe is with the City of Hampton, from the Community Center on Fort Monroe run by the Hampton Parks and Recreation department to the City of Hampton Police Academy on property. Hampton is one of America’s oldest cities, beautifully situated on the Chesapeake Bay in the heart of Hampton Roads. With more than 145,000 residents, the area is home to a vibrant and active community.

Many come here to explore the region’s rich history and abundant amenities including world-class museums, championship golf, and award-winning hotels and dining. Others come to enjoy incredible shopping, hiking, biking, boating, and so much more.

UNITED STATES ARMY

Fort Monroe was the US Army’s Headquarters for Training and Doctrine Command until 2011. The Army has served as a key partner while Fort Monroe has transitioned from base to adaptively reused community. To learn more about the long history of Freedom at Fort Monroe, visitors can enjoy the Casemate Museum’s many Army exhibits.
