SUMMARY:Virtual Exhibit: 200th Anniversary of the Hygeia Hotel
DESCRIPTION:        \n  \nHygeia Hotel\, Old Point Comfort\, Va.  Photo credit–Library of Congress\, Prints & Photographs Division\, Detroit Publishing Company Collection. \nWe’ve reached the 200th anniversary of the Hygeia Hotel! The hotel began as a place for laborers building the fort to lodge; however\, it eventually became a popular resort. The name Hygeia comes from a Greek goddess who could heal mortal illnesses and command a gentle climate\, sparking the beginning of Old Point Comfort as a resort getaway. The first Hygeia was torn down in 1862 and eventually replaced with the second which expanded enormously over the years as seen in this image. For more information on the Hygeia\, take a look at our virtual exhibit\, debuting January 15  and will be online to January 23\, created in celebration of the 200th anniversary!  Scan the QR code above to begin this interactive experience with the archival elements of the exhibit.   It may take a few moments to load.  Once you have the free app on your device it will load the exhibit and ask you to scan your space to create an anchor point. From there you can anchor your image and explore the archival elements on the Hygeia. \nThe interactive can also be accessed by clicking this link on your smartphone or tablet https://ar.adobe.com/landing/?id=aHR0cHM6Ly9jYy1hcGktY3AuYWRvYmUuaW8vYXBpL3YyL2NjX2Fzc2V0cy9hc3NldHMvOTUxMmEyYjgtMjVmOC00OTkzLTg5MjEtMDA3YTIyOTUwN2Jj&locale=en&platform=ccassets \nIf your device is not compatible for AR\, or if you are viewing the information from a desktop computer\, you can see the same information on our temporary site on the Hygeia here: https://express.adobe.com/page/aryZRN03hO9LW/ \n  \n  \n
