OpSail 2012 Virginia™ Viewing and Parking Information at Fort Monroe for the Parade of Sail, Friday, June 8th

This is a Park and Walk Event at Fort Monroe. Shuttle service will not be provided to parking spaces or parking lots. Please wear comfortable, walking shoes to enjoy the day. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets and coolers for your personal enjoyment. Vendors with light breakfast and lunch items will be available between the Chamberlin and Outlook Beach.

Best viewing location: Continental Park—best viewing times are anticipated between 9:30 am and 12:30 pm on June 8th. A limited number of bleachers have been set up in Continental Park for public viewing. Guests may also view the ships along the seawall. Audible narration will be provided during the Parade of Sail.

Street Parking and small parking lots are available throughout Fort Monroe. Please observe and obey street signs that reserve parking for Residents or for specific Building Quarters. Once on street parking is filled, traffic will be routed to the northern portion of Fort Monroe. Please plan on a 15-20 minute walk to Continental Park.

Street Closures: Fenwick Road will be closed from McNair Road to East Gate between 7 am and 3 pm on Friday, June 8th. East Gate entrance/exit to the Inner Fort will also be closed from 7 am to 3 pm.

Handicapped Parking: Vehicles displaying a DMV issued handicapped placard or license plate will be directed to a parking lot at the intersection of McNair and Fenwick. Handicapped visitors also may be dropped off at the intersection of Fenwick and Ingalls Road.

Motorcoach Drop Off/Pick Up: Motorcoaches may drop off passengers at the intersection of Fenwick and Ingalls Road. Motorcoaches will be directed to park in the northern portion of Fort Monroe.

Engineers Pier is closed for fishing and public access. There are no other fishing outlets at Fort Monroe. The pier is reserved for News Media only during OpSail activities.

Filming/Photography at Fort Monroe: Filming/Photography for private, personal use is allowed. No permits will be issued or permissions granted for Commercial Filming/Photography during OpSail.

Portable Rest Rooms are available in Continental Park and near Outlook Beach. There are no indoor public rest room facilities available during OpSail.

Boat Access/Launch: Boaters are strongly encouraged to access the Marina on Thursday or early Friday morning. There will be limited parking available for boat trailers near the Marina. Once parking spaces are filled, it will be difficult to have boat access to the Marina. No boats or jet skis will be allowed on the beaches.

Pets are allowed. Pet owners are reminded that they must keep their pets under control and to clean up after their pets.

Making the most of your visit to Fort Monroe: We invite you to tour the grounds of the Fort after the Parade. The Casemate Museum is free and open to the public for touring from 10:30 am until 4:30 pm. The beaches are also open for swimmers and sunbathers until dusk on Friday, June 8th.
